Tax Law Lawyer in City of Manila

We advise Manila businesses on BIR audits and assessments, VAT and withholding compliance for trading and importation, estate tax on family property, and Manila local business tax and real property tax, including protests and appeals.

Two tax issues dominate our Manila work. The first is documentation in trading businesses: input VAT disallowed for invoicing defects, and purchases from unregistered suppliers that cannot be deducted, which together turn a modest audit into a large assessment. The second is estate tax on family property held for generations, where the liability accumulates with surcharges and interest and blocks any transfer or sale until it is settled.

Frequently asked questions

Why was our input VAT disallowed?

Usually because the supporting invoices or official receipts do not meet the invoicing requirements, or the supplier is not properly registered. The substance of the purchase does not save a defective document, so supplier compliance is worth checking upfront.

We never paid estate tax on inherited property. What now?

The liability remains, with surcharges and interest, and no transfer can be registered until it is settled. Available relief programmes change over time; we assess the current position and the cheapest lawful route to clear it.

Can Manila local business tax be protested?

Yes, with the City Treasurer within the statutory period, and on appeal to the courts. Classification and the gross receipts attributed to the Manila location are the usual grounds.
